Incredibly stay!

Pros: All of the staff were incredible, and could not do enough to help. Our room was upgraded at no additional cost so that we had a stunning view of the castle! The room itself was spotless, with a fantastic shower and the bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was delicious and had really good variety.

A little historic luxury in Edinburgh

Pros: Very pretty historic property, great location in heart of Edinburgh. Helpful, friendly staff.

Cons: Personally wasn’t a big fan of the breakfast restaurant but in second day we sat in the courtyard after which I loved. The hotel is pricey. We paid more to stay in a castle view room which was great but we did it in January so discounted. There is a new wing - so if you want to stay in the original hotel, better check where your room will be! (We definitely wanted original hotel).

Stunning and historic hotel. My favourite hotel in the UK

Pros: The breakfast is excellent, it might be my favourite hotel breakfast buffet I have had. I've had breakfast a few times here now and it is always brilliant. Huge buffet with lots of options. Streaky and back bacon. Haggis and black pudding. Very cute mini fried eggs as part of the buffet as well as the more typical scrambled eggs from most hotels. Genuinely great offerings. Plus they have the waffles and the natural honeys. It's really good just for the breakfast. But the hotel room itself is really great, the entire building is stunning and it's a historic railway hotel. Previously used to be a station in Edinburgh and this hotel is the same hotel that was operational directly above the station. As a railway geek, it makes this really special. I've also been lucky again on this visit with a free upgrade to a castle view room!

Cons: The elevators aren't very functional at the moment due to renovations. I was on the first floor so it wasn't too bad but staying on the higher floors would be a pain. I think there is only one operating lift currently. In my castle view room, the outside of the windows was quite dirty or smeared making it quite difficult to actually see the castle. Though I didn't pay for the castle view in the first place so I'm not all that bothered, but if I had paid for it I would be annoyed.
