The Old Ferryhouse

We loved staying in the Old Ferryhouse and hope to return.

Pros: Location is very special, right on the seashore, with wonderful views across the water from sunroom. Comfortable, cosy cottage with great character. In the heart of the village of Port Appin, close to shop and Pier House Hotel, where the food is exceptional, and only a stones throw from the Lismore Ferry. But it was quiet and private in the house and the garden.

Pros: Fantastic communication from the host, the property had everything we needed for our stay (and more)

Pros: Historic character property with incredible views. Very comfortable and plenty of outdoor garden space for young family to play.

A perfect stay!

Pros: This is a lovely, traditional cottage which is a stones throw from the water's edge. Lots to do within driving distance. A pub/restaurant in walking distance and a shop across the road. Excellent communication from the owner.

Relaxing, peaceful and take some good binoculars.

Pros: Well presented and an exceptional location, local shop well stocked and an ideal location for exploring islands, spent time in the sun room watching the changing landscape and wildlife. Chilled time had by all.

Perfect location for a family with lots of space inside and in the garden. Awesome location.

Pros: We simply loved the place. The sunlounge is the master piece of the cottage : comfortably sat down on the couch, you can admire beathtaking and unforgettable sunsets on the loch Lihnne and the mountains behind. The cottage itself holds the charm and the authenticity of old houses. The location is fine : you feel the spirit of the highlands but not too bound with the car : there is a shop a few minutes away by walk ; likewise the ferry to Lismore island, where you can enjoy a journey by bike. Our host was very helpful, instructions clear. Our first booking on booking.com, not disappointed !

Great views and facilities

A very comfortable stay in an exceptional cottage with superb views.

Pros: TOFH is a traditional west coast cottage restored to a high standard. The sun room overlooking the loch is exceptional, the views are amazing, always changing with the weather. The cottage is very comfortable, soft sofas and a lovely double bed with high quality bedding. The kitchen is well equipped with washing machine, fridge and freezer etc. Plenty of room, TV if needed, but the views of the loch and wildlife were more than enough. There’s a community food store in the village, run by volunteers, a gift shop and two restaurants (didn’t use them so can’t recommend). The pedestrian ferry to Lismore is very close by, visited the island twice to see the wild flowers. A truly superb cottage in a stunning location.

Fantastic stay in a really special location

Pros: We had a wonderful week at the Old Ferryhouse. Of all the many cottages I've stayed in over the years of visiting Port Appin, this was the absolute best for location - incredible to be right on the shore, and also in the heart of the village. The kids loved playing on the shore and paddle boarding in the bay. The sun room overlooking the shore was such a lovely space; that view! We had a great stay - spacious bedrooms, comfy beds, well equipped kitchen, plenty of hot water. We also really appreciated all the books and games.

Cons: We really liked everything! Tiny points would be that we had to ask for help locating the full set of keys once we were inside. I looked back but I don't think the info for their hiding place had been given. Also, it isn't easy to find the glass recycling centre (tucked away down a side road near the Old Inn) so would be useful to add that in to the otherwise v useful guide.
